Thrilled to have my poem “The Art of Shooting in the Dark” selected by guest editor Marcelo Hernandez Castillo for the Poem-A-Day series by the Academy of American Poets. I hope you’ll take a moment to read and share. It’s available online and part of a series of basketball sonnets I’ve been working on. Read here.
I’m incredibly excited to be named a Baldwin-Emerson Fellow, selected by Jacqueline Woodson, for the “I See My Light Shining” oral history project. My project will center the stories of Latina lesbian and queer elders, documenting their lives and work. I see this project as an important contribution to the archive, which far too often leaves marginalized voices out. This project is in partnership with Baldwin for the Arts, the Emerson Collective and Columbia University’s Center for Oral History and Research.

Headlands Center for the Arts is proud to announce the 2022 Threshold Fellowship, which will bring together a group of experts and artists from across sectors to investigate climate solutions at the intersection of science, policy, culture, and justice. In collaboration with lead fellow Dr. Ayana Elizabeth Johnson—a marine biologist, policy expert, and writer—the fellows will harness the power of the creative process to produce knowledge that confronts the climate crisis. Johnson will work in partnership with poet, performer, and educator Denice Frohman; visual artist Erica Deeman; visual artist and trained architect Olalekan Jeyifous; and artist, performer, and storyteller Sheldon Scott.
I had a blast guest co-hosting NPR’s Code Switch live event (a first for me!) alongside White House correspondent, Ayesha Roscoe. We talked all things humor, poetry and romance with our guests comedian, Hari Kondabolu and poet, Paul Tran. Truly, if you have moment, I hope you’ll listen to the episode because it’s hilarious and we also coined the term “diversity salt bae.” It’ll make sense if you tune in :-)
