Keynotes & Workshops
Denice Frohman is a sought after speaker who has delivered keynote speeches at universities and colleges, national conferences, HS graduations, non-profit organizations and businesses. Her talks weave storytelling, lecture, and spoken word together to offer a dynamic and moving experience for a variety of audiences.
Connecting the personal to the political, audiences will hear about her journey from hating poetry to falling in love with language; how writing both reflected and guided her understanding of identity; how artists help us imagine other ways of being; how we must always remember that "we are the work we have to do"; and how we can tap into our creative-selves to build new worlds together. Speeches center her experiences as a queer, multi-cultural, woman, artist, educator, and often tailored to the theme of the event. Listeners will find multiple entry-points to connect with these stories. The goal is to leave audiences inspired and centered in the work before us; to make important connections between identity, power and reclamation; and to encourage all of us to step into our unique gifts to build the world we want to see.
Speaking engagements have included: TedxPhilly, mitú (digital media company), Cal-State Fullerton (Latino Heritage Month), Get Lit (Los Angeles, youth organization), Emory University, TrueColors LGBT Youth Conference, UCONN, Eastern Connecticut State University, Hobart and William Smith Colleges, Science Leadership Academy HS commencement speaker and more.\
What They Say...
“Denice Frohman is so much more than a poet. She is a sociologist, an archeologist, and most importantly a much needed alley for today’s youth. Shedding light to dark places, Denice helps us dig deep to question our humanity and its reflection in this world. Poignant, sharp and funny, Denice uses poetry to say what needs to be said. She uses it for both activism and aesthetic- as an agent that affects change, that listens and that holds and even heals the hurt. Denice Frohman will make you fall in love with language, with this aching world, and with all the ways we can rebuild it together.”
-Kelly Grace Thomas, Manager of Education and Pedagogy, Get Lit – Words Ignite
"Denice joined us on our Creative Team Retreat. Heading into the retreat, her poetry already inspired so many, so we thought simply bringing her to share some of her poetry would fire the team up. She did that and so much more! She walked into a room full of strangers, and shared with us her creative process, her passion for her craft, but even more than that, the meaning behind the craft, that left our team inspired, speechless, and more excited than ever before. She is sincere, thoughtful, inspiring and in our post retreat survey, she was easily the highlight of the week."
-Mike Su, Chief Product Officer, mitú Network
“I was inspired and moved by Denice's keynote speech. It was the perfect blend of storytelling, poetry, humor, and socially-conscious truths."
-Cynthia Castillo, English Teacher, Augustus Hawkins High School
